Face Claim: | Zoe Saldana | Writer: | Violet |
Personality:
Gamora tends to have two vastly distinct sides to her personality. The first is the face everyone gets to see: the battle hardened warrior that doesn't find anything amusing. She is often referred to as cold, unfeeling, even scary upon first interaction. This is the way she likes it, keeping everyone at arms length. They don't want to get to know her and she doesn't want to get to know them. Just get the job done and get paid, no pesky emotions to get in the way. Those that only know this side of her will only see one emotion: anger.
There is a second side to Gamora, one that even she is still getting to know. This side truly cares for those she may adopt as a "found family" and she will do anything for them. She is allowing herself to explore things she never had time for, music, dance, she's even tried her hand at cooking on occasion with mixed results but she enjoyed it. Joy, happiness...love. These were forbidden to her and now she must learn how to navigate the mine field of emotion most learn as a child. Sarcasm seems to be her favorite, though she recently found a book of "Dad jokes" as Peter might call them, that give her no end of mirth.
Appearance:
Gamora is a Zehoberei, this gives her elegant light green skin and deep wine red hair that lightens to almost magenta at the ends. Standing at a solid 6 feet tall, without her favored heeled boots, she is quite the impressive figure. Well toned and heavily muscled with an athlete's form, Gamora is not what some would call curvy but neither is she a stick figure. What would seem to be ritual scarring around her eyes will glint with the metal embedded beneath in the light. Her dark eyes are laced through with silver that can move and spin as she uses her ocular implants. She doesn't smile much, and when she does, it is only with those she trusts. Beneath the leather of her outfits, a multitude of scars grace her green flesh. Some are old battle wounds, while others are remnants of the many procedures forced upon her in the effort to make her into the perfect assassin. Though she may look slender, do not let this fool you, Gamora weighs more than she appears thanks to the density of her muscles and the metal grafted to her skeleton. There is no sweeping this gal of her feet.
Powers & Abilities:
Zehoberei - Being an alien has it's advantages, giving her enhanced characteristics beyond that of a normal Terran, including two livers!
Augmentations and Implants - Respiratory, Ocular, Cybernetic Skeletal Implants, and Bionic Enhancements to her muscle tissues and organ functions.
Skills - Sword Mastery, Hand to Hand, Marksmanship, and Piloting.
Items & Resources:
Godslayer - Given to Gamora by Thanos, the Godslayer is a collapsible sword made of a nearly unbreakable metal. Gamora has the sneaking suspicion it is made of an alloy from the core of a star but she has never learned the truth of it's origin. It got it's name because it was imbued with the power to kill an Asgardian, one that Gamora regrets she has had to use. It has three different settings, the first is that of a dagger. Gamora uses this setting the most as this is also it's resting point when in it's holster on her belt. The second is a short sword that she expertly wield with ether hand and the third is a long sword that she usually uses both hands to swing. It is her preferred weapon and one of her most prized possessions.
Statera - A switchblade given to Gamora by Thanos on the day they met, the day Thanos massacred half her people including her parents. She had hopep to one day to use it to kill Thanos in revenge for her people and all the planets he's slaughtered or forced her to massacre in his stead. She named it after the lesson he taught her that day about balance and the universe.
Home Reality:
MCU - 616, though a past version brought forward when the Avengers were mucking with the timeline to defeat Thanos.
History:
Gamora was very young when the warlord Thanos invaded Zen-Whoberi, her home planet. She hid with her parents during the initial assault but they were found by the soldiers during a sweep. She fought her captors as they drug her family out to the open and this is what would seal her fate but save her life. Thanos saw the fight in her and pulled her aside. Distracting her with a special switchblade and talking about the balance of the universe, Thanos turned her away as his soldiers slaughtered half her people, her parents included. Gamora knew what was happening, but even at such an early age, she felt what Thanos was and knew her fate was now tied to him. Fighting him now would only serve to get herself killed, and how would she be able to avenge her parents if she joined them?
Thanos took her with him, adopting her as his Daughter. In the beginning it wasn't so bad, and she wasn't alone. Thanos had other daughters, and though she was now an Orphan, she found herself with Sisters for the first time. Within a few years there were ten of them, all with similar stories to Gamora. There was one she bonded with in particular, her name was Nebula and Gamora liked the color of her skin and the way she laughed when they played. Thanos would use this bond against them, knowing that if his daughters ever turned against him then they would be his undoing just as much as they could be his strength. Thanos trained them himself, with the help of the Black Order and as they grew, the training intensified. The first of them died in training, killed by Gamora's own blade. Though it broke her heart, watching the life drain from one she called Sister, she knew if Thanos saw her tears than she would end up just like the sister bleeding out before her. And so she didn't, some part of her dying that day as her broken heart turned to ice and she walked away from her dying sister.
It began as a way to remind herself of the lessons, in secret she had a ring crafted, a simple band of metal inscribed on the inside with the name of the sister she'd lost, a lesson to not show emotion, to not care. In time they became memories, reasons why she would one day kill Thanos for all he had done. With each of them that fell, a new ring would find it's place on her fingers until there were two left, Nebula and herself. Thanos would consistently pit them against each other, feeding their hatred of each other. His vision for Gamora took shape with each augment and implant, and for Nebula...each time Gamora won their fights, Thanos would "upgrade" her. Meanwhile, Gamora was making plans for her ultimate betrayal. The first step came when Thanos tasked her in chasing down a rumor of a map that would lead to the Soulstone. Gamora succeeded in her mission, as she always did, but once she learned what Thanos had truly sent her to find, Gamora destroyed the map and told Thanos that it was a dead end. He was disappointed but he had no reason to doubt her, after all, she was his favorite and she had never failed him.
With each world Thanos sent her and the Order to raize, her hatred grew. She seethed with it, and yet the face she projected to the world was calm and collected. Only Nebula could still get under her skin and Thanos played on that, making sure to keep them at odds so that they would never unite against him. What she hadn't counted on was the Future Nebula interfering in their past. All her well laid plans would prove useless, as her Nebula linked up with this future Nebula and revealed that Thanos would get exactly what he wanted. Her mind raced as she tried to find some way out of it but there was little she could do.
Instead, she played her part as Thanos abducted this future Nebula. While her Nebula was offing kissing Thanos' ass after torturing future Nebula, Gamora was left alone with her. She made Nebula show her everything, she needed to know how they'd failed, how she'd failed. This Nebula was vastly different from the sister she knew so well, they shared the same ideals, the same seething rage for their so-called father. While they couldn't stop Thanos and past Nebula from enacting their plan, Gamora and future Nebula used the bombardment of the Terran facility to escape Thanos' ship together in the hopes that they could find the stones first.
And they did, in past Nebula's hands. Though she knew her Nebula was not yet ready to give up on her place at Thanos' heel, Gamora knew she had to try to reach her. When future Nebula killed her own past self, Gamora felt a knife in her heart for a just a split moment before she looked at future Nebula and knew: This was the sister she was always meant to have. Together, they joined the fight against Thanos and his armies with the other heroes. She did meet Peter Quill, briefly, but she didn't know him. He knew her, she could see it in his eyes, in the way he reached out to her, but you can't tell someone that they love you and Gamora's training kicked in and pushed Peter away.
Once the battle was over, and Thanos' was dusted along with his armies. Gamora looked around at everyone congratulating each other, she looked at the people she supposedly called family and she felt overwhelmed. Who was she now? Daughter of Thanos? A Guardian? Sister? The only person she told that she needed time was Nebula. Nebula wasn't happy about it, but some part of her understood. After all, hadn't Nebula needed the exact same thing before?
Gamora has spent the time since the Battle traveling from planet to planet, trying to figure out who she is and what her purpose without Thanos could be. She's helped a few along the way, but mostly she's fallen into the ways of a Mercenary, keeping her head down.
