Personality:
Jean is a responsible person, wanting to help out whenever she can. A tolerant person, believing in the inherent good of people, both mutant and human, she is prone to see the good in someone, until proven absolutely wrong. She is quick thinking under pressure and a true friend, supportive and a good listener. Underneath it all, she struggles with her own worries alone, not wanting to burden those around her.
She is an organized individual, as control and order are very important to her. Jean is by no means a neat freak, though; but she is still someone who keeps her things organized, as well as trying to keep order in her work and in her own mind. The order and control also help give Jean better control over her complex powers, and thereby help her feel more in control of all aspects of her life.
While most would consider Jean to be sweet and calm, there resides within her a passionate spirit, and dare we mention even a bit of a temper hidden under her demure nature. Jean feels that Logan understands and even accepts the power and passion of her powers. Though she fears cutting loose, part of her wants to feel the freedom of not struggling to keep all of her power under control, and she sees in Logan someone who is making peace with their own inner beast in a way that she can not. She finds that she can talk to him about things she wouldn't dream of bringing up to anyone else.
Appearance:
Jean is of roughly average height, standing at 5' 6", and she has the musculature of an average woman who eats healthily and works out regularly. Her hair is long and red, and her eyes are a sharp emerald green. It has been noted that Jean has incredibly thin wrists and ankles, which she claims to compensate for with an extremely buff mind. She doesn't spend much time worrying about fashion or keeping up with trends. Jean is a natural beauty and doesn't typically wear much makeup (nor does she need to).

History:
Jean Grey is the youngest daughter of Professor John Grey of the History Department of Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, and his wife Elaine. When Jean was ten years old, she was playing with her best friend Annie Richardson when Annie was hit by an automobile. The emotion that Jean felt as she held her dying friend awakened her own latent telepathic powers, and she experienced Annie's own emotions as she died. In doing so, Jean's mind was being dragged along to the "other side" with Annie. Unknown to Jean, the Phoenix Force lent its energy to break the connection, and began to keep a close watch on young Jean, as it felt a kinship with the young mutant. This traumatic event left Jean in a withdrawn and deeply depressed state. Moreover, Jean discovered that she could not control her newly awakened telepathic abilities, and had to isolate herself from other people to keep hold of her sanity.
A few months later, she was visited separately by both Charles Xavier and Nathaniel Essex, who each offered to work with the girl. In the end, Jean chose to begin seeing Xavier for regular sessions.
Xavier explained to Jean, but not to her parents, that she was a mutant, and he worked with her for several years. Xavier used young Jean to calibrate his Cerebro machine. During this time, Xavier erected psychic barriers in Jean's mind so that she would not be able to use her telepathic abilities until she had achieved the maturity necessary for dealing with them, leaving her with access to just her telekinesis.
When Xavier judged that Jean had reached a certain level of mastery of her telekinetic powers at the age of sixteen, Xavier released the psychic barriers preventing Jean from using her telepathic abilities. Jean's added maturity and her years of practice in using her telekinetic powers enabled her to successfully use her telepathic abilities from this point onwards.
At that same time, Xavier recommended to her parents that she move into his ancestral home, along with a few other teenage mutants, as he was opening a private boarding school for “gifted” young people. Unknown to Mr. and Mrs. Grey, this school serves as a cover for the X-Men, a team of young superhuman mutants being trained by Xavier to combat the threats posed by other mutants who use their powers against humanity. Jean was the first female to join this team. On entering the school, Jean Grey became the fifth member to join the original X-Men and took the codename of "Marvel Girl". The original five X-Men consisted of Jean, Scott Summers (Cyclops), Bobby Drake (Iceman), Hank McCoy (Beast), and Warren Worthington III (Angel).
Shortly after she joined the team, Jean and Scott fell in love with each other. Although neither told the other about his or her true feelings for quite some time, they eventually admitted their love for each other.
Their romance, however, would not last forever. After a few years, Jean stepped back and became a part-time member of the X-Men while she attended Metro College in New Jersey and dabbled in modeling. During this time, the couple split amicably and remain close friends to this day.
Some time later, on their way back to Earth from a mission in Space, the X-Men’s ship was compromised in a cosmic radiation storm. Everyone, save for Jean, took refuge in the cargo hold, while Jean held the ship together with her telekinesis. She nearly died trying to save her friends, but she was ultimately saved from the brink of death by the Phoenix Force, which healed her body and protected her from further radiation damage. Jean and the Phoenix then became one.
Lilandra of the Shi’ar then called the X-Men to her aid, as the M’Kraan Crystal, a gateway to absolute power, had become damaged and threatened to destroy all life as we know it. Jean was able to repair it with her newfound powers as the host of the Phoenix Force, and then the X-Men returned home.
Several months later, the Shi’ar took Jean and the X-Men as their prisoners, as they planned to execute Jean in an effort to kill the Phoenix Force, who is a powerful cosmic being who they believe to be a highly destructive force responsible for ending billions upon billions of lives elsewhere in the universe. The X-Men chose to fight for Jean’s life in a trial by combat, and they lost. Jean then chose to take her own life in order to save her friends, but she found that she was unable to stay dead. Begrudgingly, the Shi’ar let Jean and the X-Men return home - but they will be keeping a close eye on the Phoenix, for as much as they wish they could, they do not believe that Jean will be able to keep its immense power in check.
