Personality:
Betsy is a fiercely independent woman, though most of her life she’s been a bit spoiled. The Braddock family is incredibly wealthy, and Bee has become accustomed to enjoying the finer things in life - nothing but the best! Although she is a bit spoiled, Bee is not a brat. Rather, she is a charismatic, caring and warm individual. Bee is usually quite tactful and knows just the right thing to say for any given situation (which is likely due to her Telepathic gifts, specifically the gift of Empathy); although, she is also well versed at being witty and sarcastic.
Bee has a well developed sense of adventure, brought on at a young age, thanks largely in part to her older brother Jamie, who has always been quite the wild child (and perhaps not the best role model). She enjoys doing all manner of exciting things, from driving fast cars and skydiving, to partying it up - anything that gets her adrenaline pumping. Betsy is not usually one to turn down a chance at having a new experience.
Appearance:
Betsy’s cybernetic eyes are purple, and her hair's natural color is a mousy brown - but she would never admit to being so dull. Instead, Betsy dyes her hair various shades of purple. Betsy is taller than average, standing at a statuesque 5' 11”, with legs a mile long and the musculature of an average woman her age who eats healthily and works out regularly. She is the kind of woman who would look amazing wearing anything, from a paper bag, to designer clothing.
As an on again/off again model, Betsy has a habit of draping herself in designer clothing; or if not designer, then vintage (though still likely designer, but not always). Purple is her favorite hue (hence the hair), and so she tends to wear a lot of purple and its complementary colors. Also, she may have a bit of a “thing” for shoes...
Powers & Abilities:
Telepathy, Telekinesis, Empathy, Precognitive Visions (rarely)
Items & Resources:
Betsy has access to Cerebro.
Home Reality:
Betsy comes from a slightly altered Comic-616 reality. (I’ve credited her cybernetic eyes with STRIKE, rather than Mojo).
History:
Doctor Sir James Braddock Sr. was a citizen of Otherworld, an other-dimensional realm (not unlike Limbo). James was sent to Earth several years ago to father the champion who would be known as Captain Britain. Arriving in England, Dr. Braddock became one of the United Kingdom's leading research scientists, and he soon married and settled into Braddock Manor in Maldon, Essex. There, James created a highly advanced, supercomputer, which he named "Mastermind". Dr. and Mrs. Braddock had three children, Jamie (the eldest), and twins, Brian and Elizabeth.
Elizabeth's older brother, Jamie, had always been a bit of a 'wild child'. He was always doing stupid, dangerous stunts... getting himself hurt in some way or other... and having one hell of a good time! In fact, it was Jamie's influence that helped make Betsy the thrill seeker that she is today.
On the flip side, Betsy's twin brother, Brian, has always been the “responsible” one. Betsy is close to Brian, as one might suppose she should be, seeing as they are twins. The pair even share a special, unique psionic bond.
Growing up as a wealthy socialite, Bee learned many things that regular girls are typically never taught: proper etiquette... martial arts... horsemanship… fencing and swordplay... the proper use of firearms... various foreign languages... financial planning…
As soon as she was old enough, Betsy decided to become a licensed charter pilot, though she didn't actually need the "work" - she did it just because she loved it - because it gave her a thrill. It was around this time that her mutant powers began to manifest.
One day, not long after her brother Brian first became the hero known as Captain Britain, Betsy warned him that their brother Jamie had been injured while testing his racing car on the grounds of their family's estate - and apparently, as they found out later, it had been an attack, and not an accident. She didn't hear of the accident through the expected channels though, but rather, she experienced a precognitive vision.
Betsy hurriedly flew herself and Brian back to Braddock Manor, so that they could come to Jamie's aid, but their plane was sabotaged as they neared the crash site, thanks to the psychic powers of someone called Dr. Synne, who happened to have been behind Jamie's "accident", as well. Dr. Synne then used his powers to mind-control Betsy into perceiving her brothers, literally, as hideous monsters, which caused her to attack them; however, the two of them managed to overpower their sister, and they wound up taking her to the nearby Morder Research Center for treatment, unwittingly delivering their sister directly into the hands of one of Synne's agents, someone called Dr. Ramsey, who revealed himself to be an agent of HYDRA. He took both Betsy and Jamie as hostages, but they were soon freed by Captain Britain - who they both learned was actually their brother, Brian.
Soon after that, Betsy chose to mostly quit the charter business, she started dying her hair purple, and she took up modeling instead. Some time later, with the further development of her psionic powers, Betsy made accidental mental contact with a STRIKE Agent (Special Tactical Response for International Key Emergencies, the UK's equivalent of SHIELD), and she was soon after recruited into their ranks. She still maintains her charter pilot's license, and she will still model from time to time, as both "hobbies" tend to make for good cover (when needed) for her top-secret work.
When Betsy and Brian were in their early 20s, their parents were killed in an explosion in Dr. Braddock's laboratory caused by the malfunctioning computer, Mastermind.
Not long after the Braddocks were killed, an assassin called Slaymaster had been hired by the HYDRA crime lord (and enemy of Captain Britain), the Vixen, to wipe out the entirety of STRIKE’s Psi-Division. She wanted to clear the way for a hostile takeover of the organization.
After Slaymaster’s initial attack, only three survivors remained: Elizabeth and her two partners, Tom Lennox and Alison Double. The trio fled to Braddock Manor, seeking refuge with Bee’s twin brother, Brian.
In the meantime, MI:13 needed Captain Britain and called on Brian, but he refused to heed their call. Instead, Betsy volunteered to take her brother’s place. After a few months, and as the new Captain Britain, Betsy again faced Slaymaster. She thought that, perhaps, with the additional boost that the Captain Britain suit gave her, magnifying her physical strength and allowing her to fly, that she more than stood a chance of taking him down and bringing him to justice. However, she couldn’t have been more mistaken. The villain brutally beat her and left her blind - and while it was happening, Betsy’s twin felt her pain, anguish and defeat through their unique psionic bond. Fueled by urgency, he quickly went to his twin’s aid, killed Slaymaster, and once again took up the mantle of Captain Britain.
After that horrific experience, Elizabeth went to Switzerland to recuperate. There, she learned to use her telepathy to “see” with her mind. Upon her return to England a few months later, however, STRIKE was able to replace her damaged eyes with cybernetic ones - and thanks to input from her friends, Tom and Alison, they had been crafted with purple irises - her favorite color.
Betsy felt rejuvenated now - more like her old self. However, the fact that she couldn’t beat Slaymaster would continue to haunt her. Eventually, she decided that if she wasn’t strong enough to take down an enemy like Slaymaster on her own, that perhaps she needed to pool her energy with a proper team. And so, Besty took an extended leave of absence from STRIKE and headed to the United States, where she spent some time with the X-Men before eventually joining the team as a regular member.
